Policies and Procedures to Adopt
New Mexico Dachshund Rescue
Our goal is to save and re-home as many of the needy Dachshunds as we possibly can.  We understand there are many that want to offer a home to one or more of these deserving little dogs but there must be guidelines to follow to insure the safety and future of each one of the fosters that come into our care.

As much as we would like to fill everyone's desire to save one of the rescues, it just isn't possible due to geographical difficulties, individual rescues' needs, and in some cases, the need for patience on the part of potential adopters to wait for just the 'right' homeless Dachshund to come to us.

Please take the time to read through our policies and procedures.
We do not do out of state adoptions with the exception of southwest Texas and Arizona. This is due to the problems associated with our ability to do the required home visit and the retrieval of the rescue in the unusual case the placement does not work out. We apoligize for any inconvenience this may cause any one. There are national rescue groups that can assist or possibly rescue groups within your home state. If you need out of state assistance, please contact one of our members listed below.  We do NOT adopt a dog out as a gift for someone else.

If you are in our area let us explain a little bit about our group and how you can adopt from New Mexico Dachshund Rescue.

You must first fill out an adoption application which will be sent to you upon request via email or snail mail. When we have received your completed application we will then check references and schedule a home visit.  Members email addresses are located at the bottom of this page.

Once these procedures are completed and have fulfilled all requirements you will then be qualified to adopt from New Mexico Dachshund Rescue.

Although you may have chosen an 'Available' dog from our website, that dog may have an application pending on it prior to all the requirements being met for your application.  We also often have a 'waiting list' and you may have to be placed on that list.

We try to fill applications on a 'first come, first served' basis but again, the welfare of the rescues  is our top priority.  Therefore, we will try to best match a foster to an applicant that would provide the best home and environment for that particular Dachshund.

All of our rescues are vet checked, updated on their shots, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested and evaluated in a foster home by our members.

Our adoptions range from $150.00 to $300.00; this helps to defray the Veterinary expenses incurred by our rescues. Some have extensive medical needs that must be tended to prior to becoming available to the public.

New dogs arrive in rescue on a continuing basis so check our web site periodically. At http://dachshundphotos.homestead.com/NMDR.html .

We are a group of volunteers and are always looking for more foster homes and new members who would help with homevisits, reference checks, ect. to help save more Dachshunds. If you are interested or know someone who is, please contact us and help those Dachshunds.

WE DO ASK THAT YOU ONLY CONTACT ONE MEMBER WHEN APPLYING.  IF MORE THAN ONE MEMBER IS CONTACTED, IT HAS SEVERAL PEOPLE WORKING ON THE SAME APPLICATION WHICH CAUSES CONFUSION BOTH FOR THE MEMBERS AND FOR THE APPLICANT.   YOUR COOPERATION WITH THIS REQUEST WILL HELP TO EXPEDITE THE PROCESSES FOR ADOPTION AND GETTING YOUR NEW FAMILY MEMBER INTO YOUR HOME.  THANK YOU.
